CSC-151 Peer Educator

January 22nd – May 12th 2017

While Grinnell’s Computer Science department does not traditionally allow first year students to mentor their peers, I made myself an exception by convincing the department to accept me as a peer educator for the introductory course, Functional Problem solving. In order to fulfill this role, I prepared practice quizzes, held “mentor sessions” to review weekly concepts, and helped students debug their code during labs. This role has helped me solidify my understanding of Scheme, build competency in rapidly diagnosing errors in others’ code, and practice explaining foundational computer science concepts.
